Amflow’s PL electric mountain bikes have garnered considerable attention in the short time since they were launched at Eurobike last year. As the first brand to use the powerful new DJI Avinox motor, the bikes have quickly racked up accolades, awards, and high praise from testers and media around the world. Sadly, however, the bikes have not been available for sale in the United States, leaving American consumers no option other than wringing their hands in anxious anticipation for the past year.
Since their debut, Amflow has slowly but surely expanded into more markets, starting with Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom, followed by Spain, France, Italy, and Belgium earlier this year. If you’re among the many U.S. residents hoping to get an Amflow PL Carbon eMTB, you’ll be happy to know the wait is finally over, and they are officially available for purchase stateside. That’s right, now you no longer need to be envious that your European and Australian friends can get one, but you can’t. Now, riders in the U.S. can also get their hands on what seems to be one of the hottest bikes on the market.

There’s no shortage of electric mountain bikes to choose from these days, so it’s particularly impressive that Amflow has made a name for itself so quickly. Indeed, it was the first brand to include the DJI Avinox motor and was actually incubated by DJI as a launch platform for the Avinox drive system. Amflow Bikes is its own brand, however, and the Avinox drive system is not exclusive to it. The highly regarded drive system was intended to be used independently, and recently, we’ve seen other brands like Rotwild and Unno incorporating it into their latest eMTBs.

U.S. E-Bike Regulations
An important consideration for riders in the U.S. is that the powerful Avinox motor exceeds the peak power limits and regulations in many places in the States. Sure, it has a nominal rating of 250 watts, but with a peak power of 850 watts and the ability to boost max power up to 1000 watts in Turbo mode, the Avinox is one of the most powerful mid-drive eMTB motors available.
Most states and federal lands cap an e-bike’s motor power at 750 watts. That means any 1000-watt capable Avinox-equipped bikes may not technically be legal to ride in some states and trail systems. There are six states, however, that allow e-bike motors up to 1000 watts, and those are: Georgia, Kansas, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Virginia. At present, Florida and Mississippi do not have any motor power limits. According to Amflow, it’s up to the user to “comply with local laws and regulations when using it.”
