Cincinnati police are investigating Ku Klux Klan flyers found in various communities across the city.

Lt. Jonathan Cunningham confirmed on Aug. 3 the department's intelligence unit is looking into the matter, according to a statement.

"We are committed to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all residents and will continue to take all necessary actions to address and prevent the spread of hate in our communities," Cunningham said in an August 3 statement.

The president of Madisonville's community council, Kate Botos, said in a post on Facebook that flyers promoting "divide and violence" were distributed overnight in the neighborhood.

Other people posted pictures of the flyers on Facebook, which included a call for people to join the KKK in response to the viral fight in Cincinnati on July 26.

Police urge anyone with information regarding the distribution of these flyers to contact Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.

The fight has spawned criticism and condemnation across the country, with many framing the incident behind a political and racial lens.

Four people have been arrested and two more charged in connection with the fight, police have said.

Kentucky man, longtime KKK leader previously fined for littering flyers

A Kentucky man was fined in March after police said he littered flyers for the hate group out his car window near Cincinnati.

Along with a group of other members, the man littered flyers across Lincoln Heights and surrounding neighborhoods in the aftermath of a neo-Nazi demonstration over Interstate 75 in February.

When confronted by deputies, the man took credit for every flyer distributed around Greater Cincinnati since 2022, saying they had all come from his group, according to body camera footage of the traffic stop.

The longtime leader within the KKK was ordered to pay a $149 fine, which he never did, according to court records.

His debt was sent over to collections in June and remains unpaid, court records show.

The Enquirer has asked police whether the man who has previously distributed KKK flyers is connected to this most recent incident.
