In 2024, Lamborghini made its first-ever foray into factory competition at the top level of sports car racing in both the U.S. and Europe. Less than two years later, however, Lamborghini is already putting its SC 63 program on pause.
Lamborghini's Squadra Corse division announced the pause on Monday, citing a "strategic decision to refocus its efforts and investments on the GT3 platform and Super Trofeo." The brand has already announced plans to introduce Temerario-based racers for both the GT3 category and its own spec Super Trofeo series over the next two years. The announcement makes no guarantee that the SC 63 program will resume after that.
The move, which Lamborghini is currently referring to only as a pause for the 2026 season, comes one season after dropping out of the FIA World Endurance Championship and moving away from initial factory team Iron Lynx. Lamborghini's scaled-down program has instead been reduced to a single car fielded by Riley Motorsports in endurance rounds of the IMSA GTP class. Now that program, too, will be idled.
Although Lamborghini has raced the Ligier-based SC 63 LMDh prototype since 2024, no other brand has followed in the company's footsteps in choosing to build a car with Ligier. The three brands that have announced intentions to build a new LMDh car in 2026 or 2027 have instead opted to partner with Oreca and Dallara, both existing partners of multiple brands already. Iron Lynx, the former factory team partner for Lamborghini, has switched from operating prototypes to running the Mercedes-AMG factory program in the FIA WEC's GT3 class.
While the SC 63 is not set to run in 2026, the program is still scheduled to run two more IMSA races in 2025. A Lamborghini representative confirmed to Sportscar365 that the brand still plans to enter those races, a six hour round at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the 10-hour Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
