California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is scheduled to speak Monday afternoon after Texas House Democrats left the state in a bid to stop Republicans from advancing House maps that would give the GOP five more pickup opportunities ahead of 2026.
Newsom late last week raised the idea of putting a new map up for a vote in a special election in November, allowing that map to be in place for the rest of the decade.
The governor’s remarks are scheduled for 4 p.m. EDT.
