Classic rock fans are mourning the loss of a legend.
David Roach, a singer for the Los Angeles-based band Junkyard, has died after a battle with aggressive squamous cell carcinoma, the band confirmed in an August 3 statement. He was 59.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Roach,” the band wrote in a statement shared to Instagram. “After a courageous battle with cancer, David passed away peacefully last night at home, in the loving arms of his wife.”
The statement from the band—which also includes members Brian Baker, Chris Gates, Patrick Muzingo, Tim Mosher, Jimmy James and Todd Muscat—went on to honor the member, who had been part of the band since its 1987 inception.
“He was a gifted artist, performer, songwriter, and singer—but above all, a devoted father, husband, and brother,” the statement continued. “Our thoughts are with the entire Roach family and everyone who loved him.”
Roach’s tragic passing comes just weeks after the band announced he had tied the knot with wife Jennifer Roach in a casual ceremony last month.

“Congratulations to the happy couple,” the band wrote in a July 20 Instagram post, alongside a group photo as well as a photo of the newly-married couple, “Mr. and Mrs. David Patrick Roach.”
In the weeks leading up to Roach’s tragic death, his fellow band members worked together to share stories of his legacy and raise money for his family amid rising medical costs.

“David is a true friend to everyone he meets,” Junkyard wrote in a GoFundMe post. “He has a knack for making people feel special and appreciated, and his incredible sense of humor always brings laughter and happiness to those around him.”
Following his death, Roach’s bandmate James shared a photo of the performer, adding in the caption, “Gone way too soon, rest in peace David.”
