A heat wave is predicted to begin this Wednesday and run through Saturday. It is expected to peak on Thursday with some areas reaching temperatures in the triple digits. The cause is a high-pressure system, also known as a heat dome, forming across the region.

According to the National Weather Service meteorologist Richard Thompson, temperatures have been moderate along the coast this summer thanks to “colder ocean temperatures.”

This week, however, prepare to feel the heat with temperatures reaching up to 110 degrees in valleys, mid-100s in deserts and low to mid-80s by the beach.

With temperatures rising, there is an increased risk of fires. The heightened temperatures also increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. During these conditions, it is crucial to stay hydrated, limit exercise and check on neighbors, especially those who do not have working air conditioning.
