Genesis GV90 EV Approaches
Genesis, once simply a slightly more premium sedan model in the Hyundai lineup, has become a successful luxury brand in its own right, and it's not showing any signs of slowing down. In fact, its sights are set higher than ever before, and this GV90 prototype spied by our photographers in Europe is proof. While this luxury SUV will be targeting BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS customers, it's also taking a page out of the Rolls-Royce playbook with rear-hinged coach doors that will make ingress and egress a cinch, confirmed by flush-fitting door handles that are no longer camouflaged.
Concept Car Looks Will Carry Over

The last time we spied a GV90 development mule, the vinyl-wrapped body was wearing additional canvas camouflage to hide its roofline and rear end. That prototype appeared to have conventional door openings, which indicates that the reverse-opening doors will be an optional extra. Nevertheless, the basic design of all variants will adhere closely to that of the Neolun concept presented last year, and this sighting confirms this for the rear end for the first time, with the dual-stripe lightbars evidently stretching across the rear fascia and wrapping around the quarter panel. This happens just below the shoulder line, and it draws your eye to the door handles in the middle of the vehicle, then to the lighting accent on the front fenders. The hood line also sits on this plane, with the headlights appearing just below. It's a cohesive design that carries a clear theme throughout the vehicle, increasing the impression of width, and the diamond-shaped mesh grille in the lower front fascia gives it a sporty but dignified look. We suspect that the mesh will end up in black or chrome, but the cream color may well find itself on a production vehicle too.
An Interesting Glasshouse

The side windows on this GV90 seem a little small, but the final production design will seem a little better proportioned as the birghtware around the glasshouse is still wrapped in protective tape; black will help the windows and pillars blend together, helping the vehicle look longer. One element of the design that has us scratching our heads a little is the rear windshield, which seems remarkably small for a vehicle of this size. The rearmost side window also appears to be largely blacked out, which could create a blind spot. This decision may have been taken to hide the third row of seating.
Expected to be based on an evolution of Hyundai Motor Group's E-GMP electric platform, the GV90 EV should be more efficient and powerful than the remarkable Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the award-winning Kia EV9. With a near-production prototype on European roads and the interior already having been spied, a reveal can't be far away.
