CHICAGO (WTVO) — A government building in Downtown Chicago has been renamed to honor one of Illinois’ longest-standing officials, Jesse White.
The building that is located at 115 South LaSalle Street has been renamed the Jesse White State of Illinois Building to honor his efforts as a public servant to the state.

White is best known as Illinois’ longest-serving Secretary of State, a member of the Illinois House of Representatives for 16 years, the Cook County recorder of deeds for 6 years, and a school teacher.
The 91-year-old said, ” It’s an honor beyond description. Never in my life did I think there would be a building in downtown Chicago named after yours truly.”
White hopes to inspire the youth to follow his lead as a public servant.
“I hope that the Jesse White State of Illinois Building will inspire future generations of all backgrounds to serve with honor and excellence,” White said.
The building is home to 15 state agencies and constitutionals, as well as 2,300 government employees.
