Michael Schumacher’s infamous 1997 Ferrari F310B race car, unrestored and historically significant, takes center stage at Monterey Car Week.

A defining chapter in Formula 1 history will be on full display during Monterey Car Week as the 1997 Ferrari F310B from GT Motor Cars, driven exclusively by Michael Schumacher, appears at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and Casa Ferrari at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The chassis in question is far more than a racing machine—it’s a time capsule of one of Formula 1’s most controversial seasons. Known best for Schumacher’s dramatic on-track clash with Jacques Villeneuve at the 1997 European Grand Prix in Jerez, this Ferrari remains unrestored and in as-raced condition, offering collectors and fans a rare glimpse at raw Grand Prix history.

  • Japan 1997 Winner

  • This chassis was only raced by Michael Schummacher

  • This chassis was most infamous for when Michael Schumacher tried to block Jacques Villenueve at Jerez in 1997 and ended up beaching his car in the sand

  • The FIA penalized Schummacher his championship points where he was out of contention the remainder for the season

  • Eligible for historics as well as Monaco

  • On display at The Quail

  • On display at Casa Ferrari at Pebble Beach Concours

Designed by legendary engineers Rory Byrne, Ross Brawn, and John Barnard, the F310B marked Ferrari's final wide-body Formula 1 car. With a thunderous 046/2 V10 engine and revised aerodynamics, the car represented a turning point for the Scuderia, enabling Schumacher to win five races that season—including a victory in this very chassis at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka.

The 1997 title fight culminated in Jerez, where Schumacher and Villeneuve entered the final round separated by a single point. An unprecedented qualifying session saw Schumacher, Villeneuve, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen post identical lap times. The race itself became legendary for Schumacher’s controversial attempt to block Villeneuve, which instead ended with Schumacher beached in the gravel and later penalized by the FIA.

Despite the fallout, the F310B remains a testament to Ferrari’s resurgence and Schumacher’s uncompromising spirit. The car was purchased directly from a Ferrari executive and has seen light track use since its retirement. Its eligibility for historic series—including Monaco—adds even more appeal.

Whether viewed as a piece of engineering brilliance or motorsport drama, Schumacher’s 1997 F310B stands as one of the most historically significant Formula 1 cars ever offered for public display. See the listing here.
