OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) — Convicted murderer Edward Zakrzewski is appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court for a stay of execution.

Zakrzewski’s lawyers are requesting a stay on the grounds that Florida is an “Extreme outlier when it comes to capital punishment.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the death warrant on July 1st, setting the execution date for July 31st.

Zakrzewski killed his wife, Sylvia, and his two children, Edward and Anna, at their home in Ft. Walton Beach on June 9th, 1994.

He then drove to Orlando and hopped a flight to Hawaii, changed his name, and moved into a family-run religious commune.

He surrendered to police after the family saw his picture on “Unsolved Mysteries”.
