Cellphone footage of a Ford Mach-E riding a highway barrier before crashing into another car has gone viral. The bizarre crash has many questioning if something about the all-electric crossover malfunctioned and that ‘s what caused the accident. If so, that could have big implications for others who own Mach-Es.

The video was taken by a guy in the San Francisco Bay Area and posted to TikTok. It’s spread to just about every social media platform since as people are astounded at the footage.
It shows the green Ford crossover scraping along the cement barrier on a California highway shoulder. The EV’s emergency lights are flashing as the guy filming pulls up alongside it.
He apparently first spotted the Mach-E scraping along the cement barrier on the highway’s median, so he got out his phone and started filming as he got closer and the vehicle crossed over to the shoulder.
As he pulls alongside the Ford, you can see the driver doesn’t have any hands on the steering wheel. In fact, it looks like the person has their hands up in a praying motion, perhaps thinking they’re about to die.
The whole thing is odd because while the Mach-E has BlueCruise, which allows for hands-free driving, that system should have detected the vehicle was scraping along the barrier and either steered away from it or applied the brakes. It’s possible the system was activated at the time.
Others think the driver purposely steered into the two cement barriers in an attempt to stop the vehicle, maybe because the brakes weren’t working.
If that was the plan, it didn’t help. As the Ford Mach-E comes to an on-ramp and the barrier disappears, it veers right, hits a car merging onto the highway, flipping it as the EV finally comes to a halt.
There are so many unknowns at this time, we can’t form any hard opinions about this case. Hopefully more info will be revealed soon. We just wonder if this will spark an NHTSA investigation.
