Lucid isn’t afraid of getting a little dirty.

The California EV maker just unveiled a concept called the Gravity X that will make its public debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday. The prototype turns the company’s first SUV into an off-road-ready beast.

The Gravity X, which Lucid wants to be called the “Gravity Cross” in spoken conversation, represents an exciting change of pace for the company. The SUV’s sleek design hasn’t been radically altered, but some key modifications and accessories give it a much more rugged character than before.

The Gravity X may look just like the base model at a glance, but a close study reveals just how different the two EVs are. For starters, the concept rides much higher than the production version and features a wider track. The vehicle, which is finished in satin Astral Drift, also features redesigned front and rear bumpers with integrated tow hooks and skid plates to protect its underbody while traversing rough roads. Rounding out the exterior changes are an all-new roof rack that includes LED spotlights and a set of custom six-spoke wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.

The interior, for the most part, has been left alone. The spacious cabin does feature special orange accents along with sill plates and rocker trim inscribed with the geographical coordinates for Pebble Beach. No mention of seating capacity is included in the vehicle announcement, but the production Gravity can comfortably fit up to seven adults.

There is also no mention of any mechanical changes, but we can’t imagine anyone will complain about that. The concept is based on the all-wheel-drive Grand Touring model that features a dual-motor powertrain that makes 828 hp. It may be significantly bigger than the company’s sedan, the Air, but it’s still quick, zooming from zero to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. Range, meanwhile, comes out to a rather remarkable 450 miles.

Lucid hasn’t said whether or not it intends to sell the Gravity X. But, when you take into account how close the vehicle is to the production version, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the prototype is meant to serve as a preview of a future off-road-focused trim package. If it does, expect the all-terrain kit to add a not insignificant amount to the Gravity’s $79,900 starting price.
