The S1 LM is not the only model that Gordon Murray revealed during Monterey Car Week. Slathered in a brilliant, ocean wave blue, the Gordon Murray Special Vehicles Le Mans GTR adds a second low-volume model to the brand's lineup. Murray wanted to be tribute to the Matra-Simca MS660, Porsche 917, and Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/3, and what better way to do it than to build a longtail car himself.
"Longtail racing cars perfectly combine aerodynamic benefit and aesthetic balance, I've always loved their mix of considered engineering and flowing design. Our Le Mans GTR timelessly reimagines the longtail racers I’ve admired since I began designing cars, adding contemporary aerodynamics and our exquisitely engineered chassis, engine, and transmission," Murray said.
The GMSV Le Mans GTR rides on an all new platform and, save for the characteristic 641 hp V-12 and six-speed manual transmission, is much more focused on track-amenities than other Gordon Murray products. For one, the GMSV Le Mans GTR has a Passive Boundary Layer Control, which equates to a low drag aerodynamic setup for maximum ground effect. Similarly, the Le Mans GTR sheds the rear mounts required for the T.50 and T.50s, allowing for a deep, full-width rear wing.
Being an ultra high performance super car, features like the roof-mounted intake remain. Two exhaust pipes suffice for the Le Mans GTR and the new SV Design model has a stiffer and lighter suspension setup as well as wider tires. Murray says the weight distribution has been optimized, too. Larger air vents at the front and side-pod intakes ahead of the rear wheels improve engine and gearbox cooling.
Only 24 Le Mans GTR units will be built, with each one coinciding with an hour of the storied French endurance race. Development is reportedly underway and the first customer cars will be done in 2026. You can put your wallets away already, as all 24 units were paired with a specific owner and have been sold. Sale prices were, of course, not disclosed.
