Gordon Murray does not need to do anything more to cement his legacy as one of the most influential automotive designers of all time. That does not mean he is done trying, though. This is the Gordon Murray Special Vehicles S1 LM, a modern take on the storied McLaren F1 GTR he designed decades ago.

Gordon Murray Automotive is taking its T.50 up quite a few notches, as its new S1 LM model revealed at the Quail uses T.50 bones and adds turn-of-the-century appropriate bodywork to pay homage to McLaren's victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. A roof-mounted air intake, a center-mount quad exhaust, and the iconic split rear wing add a truly retro feel to the S1 LM. All this visual work makes up part of the new package, but the team at Gordon Murray Automotive couldn't just let the mechanical bits age, either.

"I love timeless design. I never want us to join the race to make the most outrageous looking supercar at expense of balance, beauty and proportion. Look at the result, the car is timeless and beautiful," Gordon Murray said of the car.

A stiffer and lighter suspension is paired with a wider track, bigger tires, and an enhanced cooling system, all of which help the T.50 derivative improve its track performance and longevity. Other track-ready improvements include a burly front splitter and a rear diffuser, which suggest that downforce is readily available at the right speeds. Power for the S1 LM rises to 690 hp thanks to a bored out, naturally aspirated 4.3-liter V-12 that revs to 12,100 rpm and is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. An Inconel exhaust system wrapped in 18-karat gold heat shielding is ostentatiously included as well.

Only five Gordon Murray Automotive S1 LM units will be built. The T.50-based models will be fully street legal and deliveries will begin in 2026. The bespoke automaker has yet to reveal pricing details about the car, though we suspect these S1 LM units will rise well above the $3.2 million MSRP of a standard T.50.
