Unsurprisingly, when you’re Vaughn Gittin Jr. you can easily be one of the first to take delivery of a Ford Mustang GTD. The drifting and racing champion has quite the loyal following, so of course the Blue Oval wants to give him its new halo car.
Shooting at a dragstrip leaves one teen dead.
For his part, Gittin was super excited to take delivery and it’s no wonder why. After all, the GTD is by far the most hardcore production version of the Mustang ever, making the Cobra R look like child’s play.
But we’re a little surprised Gittin didn’t go a little wild with customizing the look of his GTD. Perhaps he gets enough of that with the flashy liveries and bright wheels on his race vehicles, but his super pony car looks about as restrained as a mortician.
After all, the thing is gray with black trim and with a black interior. Considering Ford made a big deal about how the privileged few who will get to order a Mustang GTD could get one of thousands of colors for the paint, we can’t believe Gittin didn’t go with something that doesn’t look like tens of thousands of regular Mustangs on the road.
The man says he has his team at RTR vehicles has a “plan to spice it up a little bit.” What exactly that means is a mystery and that’s probably how Gittin wants it to remain, for now.

That could be that he’s going to give the RTR cosmetic treatment to his GTD, which would make it quite unique. Or it could mean that he’s going to modify the thing to be more powerful or perhaps for drifting, although we really doubt the latter, but who knows?
Maybe Gittin will even have it wrapped with something colorful, as long as Ford approves of it, of course.
For now, the motorsports legend seems pretty happy to own one of these special machines and we’re happy for him.
