Louisiana State Fiddler Champions

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Instrumental music of the old world is celebrated in Natchitoches during the NSU Folk Festival where the winners are announced for the Louisiana State Fiddle Championship.

Ron Yule of DeRidder was named Grand Champion. Samuel O’Kelley also from DeRidder won second. Phillip Mayo of Leesville placed third. Asher Hotard of Folsom placing fourth.

The NSU Folk Festival aims to continue cultural traditions through artistic talent.

“The level of talent and artistic crafts of the players in this year’s championship was phenomenal,” said Dr. Shane Rasmussen, director of the NSU Festival.

The annual Louisiana State Fiddle Championship was held in Magale Recital hall on the campus at Northwestern State University as part of the 45th annual Natchitoches-NSU folk festival.
