White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino is expected to be tapped to run the Presidential Personnel Office, replacing top aide Sergio Gor as the head of the staffing office.
“Dan Scavino is one of President Trump’s most trusted and longest serving advisors. There is nobody better to ensure the President’s Administration is staffed with the most qualified, competent, and America First-driven workers,” press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. “There is much still to be done and Dan’s leadership will ensure the highest quality, most dedicated workforce ever.”
Trump plans to appoint Scavino, who has been one of the president’s closest advisers since the first administration, Politico first reported.
The president on Friday announced he picked Gor to serve as ambassador to India and special envoy for South and Central Asia. The aide, known as a fierce loyalist, has been influential at the center of Trump’s work to reshape the federal government and stock it with other loyalists.
Far-right activist Laura Loomer was also briefly vying for the personnel role, saying on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast that she would “love to run the office of PPO if given the opportunity.”
“I obviously wanted to work in the Trump administration and I would be happy to serve the president in any capacity,” she said, adding that there’s a “vetting crisis” on the Trump team.
Loomer has racked up personnel wins from outside the White House. She worked in recent months on identifying Trump administration officials she deems insufficiently loyal to the president and his agenda and has brought her recommendations to the White House.
