DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Ohio Task Force 1 has been activated in response to tsunami impacts on Hawaii.

A 45-member type-III Urban Search and Rescue team was activated around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

“Team members are currently being notified, rostered, and directed to report to the OH-TF1’s headquarters for further instructions. Preparations are already underway as the Logistics team begins packaging equipment in anticipation for deployment via aircraft,” the agency said in a press release.

The deployment will be led by OH-TF1 Task Force Leader Adam Landis.

“Our Logistics team is already in motion,” Landis said. “Once FEMA finalizes our travel orders, we’ll be ready to move.”

The team is deployed following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. Tsunami warnings were issued across Hawaii, Alaska and the entire West Coast of the United States.
