Arrest made after shots fired outside Virginia Beach middle school

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A man is in custody following the report of gunshots at a youth football event at Bayside Middle School in Virginia Beach.

An arrest warrant obtained by WAVY TV says Brandon Bethea faces several charges, including possession of a firearm at a school, maliciously shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting within 100 feet of a school, and malicious wounding.

According to police, Bethea is accused of shooting at a car with people inside during the football event on Aug. 12. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Police were dispatched to the scene for an active shooting between two individuals, court paperwork states. The involved parties had already left the scene when officers arrived, but documents state there were “many witness statements” gathered by police. One provided video footage to police.

Bethea is scheduled to appear in court for his preliminary hearing on November 20. He is currently being held without bail.
