MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) – Alex Kirch spent his first summer after graduating from Grand Junction High School traveling, partially for sightseeing in Germany, and partially to be recognized at the Future Business Leaders of America’s national conference.

His capstone project was selected as one of the top projects in the nation out of a group of nearly 16,000 students from all 50 states, and Canada, Puerto Rico and China.

Kirch said that FBLA changed his life for the better.

“FBLA really pushed me,” said Kirch. “When I was a freshman in high school, I probably had like a 2 something GPA. I didn’t really care about school. Then getting into that club, it really pushed me to grow and to expand on my knowledge, and I ended up with over a 3.5 in high school with some scholarships.. FDLA, they pushed me to where I am now.”

Kirch now attends Colorado Mesa University, and plans to join the Mavericks’ FBLA club. The whole purpose of what he does is about, “helping your community,” he said.
