A shooting at Flossmoor Road and Kedzie Avenue in Flossmoor Tuesday morning left one person injured, police say, but no suspects in custody.
Flossmoor police alerted community members that multiple shots were fired at the intersection a little before noon Tuesday, with initial information suggesting two vehicles traveling west on Flossmoor Road were involved. Police searched the area, but those involved “immediately fled the area,” police said.
Flossmoor police Chief Carl Estelle said the person shot, who was not involved, was taken to a nearby hospital and was listed as being in stable condition. He declined to say which hospital as police continue investigating.
Officials from Homewood-Flossmoor High School and Flossmoor Elementary District 161 were notified “out of an abundance of caution,” police said. Homewood-Flossmoor High School said in a statement to school community members that the shooting posed no immediate threat to the school at 999 Kedzie Ave.
“It’s just so close that we knew we should contact the school,” Estelle said Wednesday. “Even though School District 161 is a little farther away, we still contacted them as well just to keep open communication so they’d be aware too.”
Flossmoor police ask anyone with information about the shooting call 708-957-4500.
