GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — It’s no secret that Michigan is full of natural beauty, and plenty of out-of-towners know South Haven, Ludington and Lake Michigan’s other coastal cities. But there are plenty of other coastal gems. Three of them have been recognized.
A survey conducted by New Jersey Real Estate Network highlighted three “lesser-known U.S. Coastal Towns with scenic views” in Michigan.
Bay View came in at No. 15. The small town sits on the Little Traverse Bay, a stone’s throw from Petoskey. The Victorian community is on the National Register of Historic Places, known for its local hiking and biking and as an under-the-radar spot for relaxing getaways.
Leland and Charlevoix came in at No. 52 and No. 58. Leland is home to a historic fishing district that makes it a unique stop on the Lake Michigan shoreline. Charlevoix is all about the water, sandwiched between Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix and bisected by the Pine River.
Hawaii also only had three towns identified — they just so happened to be the top three in the survey: Kaunakakai on Moloka’I’s south shore, Hana on Maui’s eastern edge and Haleiwa on Oahu.
Cedar Key and Apalachicola, Florida rounded out the top five.
