While there are no reported threats locally, police departments are increasing security measures at schools as the new academic year begins.

The Cheshire Police Department said in a Facebook post, “As a proactive measure to reassure our community, the Cheshire Police Department will be increasing patrols and conducting more frequent location checks at all schools and houses of worship throughout our town. These efforts are part of our continued commitment to ensuring the safety and peace of mind of all our residents and faith communities.”

In Colchester, the police department said its officers will be at schools, primarily to manage traffic and protect students as they arrive and depart.

“We urge all drivers to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and be particularly attentive on Norwich Avenue and Halls Hill Road, where our enforcement will be increased,” the department posted on its Facebook page.
