Weather Blog: Hazy skies across Northwest Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Hazy skies seen across Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley in recent days are actually smoke from wildfires in Canada.

Check out this time-lapse from Mount Sequoyah showing the smoke overlooking Fayetteville.

The smoke is reaching our area because of the orientation of the jet stream.

The smoke is affecting the air quality across a good portion of the United States. The worse air quality is being seen across the Northern Plains and Great Lakes Region.

As of 8 p.m. Saturday, air quality in Northwest Arkansas was rated “Moderate,” meaning some sensitive people may experience minor effects.

The haze and the air quality issues should continue into the workweek as Northwest flow aloft strengthens.
