Two heavily customized Ford Mustangs will headline Mecum Auctions’ Monterey 2025 event on August 16, each offering a unique interpretation of the classic pony car ethos—one engineered for the show circuit and the other dialed in for the street.

Leading the lineup is a 1967 Mustang Fastback dubbed DS-500R, a professional custom build that earned the 2023 Goodguys PPG Street Machine of the Year title. Constructed by Ironworks Speed and Kustom in Bakersfield, California, the Mustang also received the Outstanding Engineering Award at the Grand National Roadster Show. Finished in PPG Metallic Gray with red leather upholstery, the car features dramatic body modifications, including widened fender flares, custom roof vents, and 3D-printed rocker moldings. Under the hood, a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 sourced from a Shelby GT500 pairs with a Tremec T56 six-speed transmission, backed by Detroit Speed suspension, RideTech coilovers, and massive 14-inch Wilwood disc brakes.

Meanwhile, a 1965 Mustang Custom Fastback brings modern muscle to the Monterey coast with a build totaling over $177,000 in receipts. Painted in Ford Metallic Blue and showing fewer than 200 miles since completion, the car is powered by a 347-cubic-inch V-8 from Aldridge Motorsports rated at 450 horsepower. It features Ford Racing Z2 aluminum heads, dual Holley carburetors, MSD ignition, and a Borla exhaust. A new Tremec five-speed manual transmission and Heidts suspension upgrades give the vintage Mustang contemporary handling and control. Inside, the black vinyl interior is outfitted with custom gauges, a high-end stereo system, and Nu Relics power windows.
Both cars will cross the block on Saturday, August 16, representing a rare opportunity for collectors seeking top-tier craftsmanship and modern performance rooted in iconic 1960s Mustang styling.
