Watching a suspect in a BMW M3 run from Georgia troopers in the most futile escape effort is really something to behold. It’s like some people think they’re in The Dukes of Hazzard and police these days don’t have all kinds of tools to track them down, even if their car is faster.
Watch how Georgia troopers handle a car theft suspect.
In this case, the suspect was caught speeding on the highway: a simple offense you have probably been guilty of in the past. A normal person just pulls over, takes the ticket, then deal with it like a responsible adult.
This guy decides to run.
As the trooper approaches from behind with lights and sirens going, the suspect signals to get into the right lane, the only one to move over for law enforcement, ironically. But the trooper also moves over to the right, making it obvious he’s after the M3 and not on his way to another call.
That’s when our suspect drops the hammer, showing what the Bavarian brawler can do. In short order, the guy starts gapping the trooper and that lead grows quickly.
Even though the Bimmer driver ditches the trooper without much effort, the fight isn’t over. Keeping up the pursuit, the trooper soldiers on, even after encountering thick traffic on the highway.
It’s not too long before that persistence pays off as the trooper spots the guy trying to blend into traffic while transitioning from one highway to another. The one thing an M3 isn’t is inconspicuous.
The chase ends up on surface streets in Atlanta, which can be notoriously maze-like. Rather than try losing the trooper in the mess of side roads, the driver sticks with main routes, perhaps not knowing the area so well.
As the suspect encounters more traffic at red lights, the BMW doesn’t do so well hopping the cement curbs on islands to get through, allowing the trooper to begin closing the gap.
But our suspect pulls some fancy moves, then changes up his route rapidly in an effort to lose his pursuer. By that point you can hear over the radio Atlanta Police’s Phoenix helicopter is in position, so the Bimmer isn’t going to just disappear.
Phoenix directs the trooper to the parking lot where the guy is hiding and the chase is on again, only it gets more intense as other troopers join in. That makes us question at what point does a suspect just give up, realizing he’s not going to get away and running will just result in a worse conclusion?
They eventually find and corner the Bimmer in another parking lot. The guy was probably wondering how, after he ditched the fuzz, troopers found him. Apparently, the mastermind criminal has never heard of helicopters.
