SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Friday, Utah! Slightly cooler temperatures are expected in Northern Utah today following the passage of a dry cold front.
The bottom line? Cooler air moves into Northern Utah while fire danger holds in the South.

The dry cold front moved through northern Utah and stalled in central Utah, bringing decreasing winds by the weekend and a noticeable decrease in temperatures today. Expect temperatures along the Wasatch Front to stay in the mid to upper 80s, with low 90s expected through central Utah. High heat sticks around in Southern Utah with triple digits holding on in St. George, Moab, the Four Corners and near Lake Powell.
Since the cold front stalls, areas south of it will still see elevated, gusty winds paired with these hot temperatures and dry conditions. Red Flag Warnings are in effect for the entire state, apart from Summit County.

Conditions will generally be similar across the board with southwest winds at 10-25 mph gusting up to 35-40 mph and humidity in the 8-15% range, but the timing varies. The West Desert and Mojave Desert, including St. George and Cedar City, will expire at 9 p.m. tonight.
The northern West Desert, Wasatch Front, and the Wasatch Mountains will also expire at 9 p.m. Warnings hold on in eastern and south-central Utah through tomorrow. The Four Corners region, East Uinta Basin, and Book Cliffs’ warning expires on Friday at 8 p.m. Just an hour later at 9 p.m. Friday the last of the warnings expire which make up the largest area and includes places like the San Rafael Swell, Grand Staircase, Color Country Mountains, West Uinta Basin, and Central Mountains where the Monroe Canyon Fire is still burning roughly 65,000 acres.
As far as wet weather goes, we don’t have any in the forecast. Dry conditions statewide with worsening drought conditions are expected, with long-range weather models suggesting we don’t see precipitation through mid-month. There is a slight chance storms bubble up Monday but with dry air at the surface, gusty winds would be our biggest threat.
We will see how the weather pattern shapes up, so we’ll keep you updated on the latest developments in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online we are Good4Utah!
