GRANT COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — A man from a small town in Grant County has been charged with his 10th DWI after he allegedly led a police officer on a “high-speed pursuit.” According to the Hurley Police Department, Jerry Amador, 65, has nearly 30 years of history with drunk driving offenses.

On Monday, a Hurley Police Department officer tried to pull Amador over for speeding. Police say Amador did not pull over and instead led the officer on a chase through a residential area. The pursuit ended at Amador’s home, where police say he tried to run away before being apprehended by law enforcement. He has been charged with the following:
DWI
Aggravated fleeing
Resisting arrest
Driving with a revoked license
Speeding 60 mph in a 35-mph zone
Failing to use turn signals
“This incident serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of reckless driving and making the decision to drive after you have been drinking. It is sad that our citizens have been in danger from individuals like this for almost 30 years,” Hurley Police Chief Kevin Vigil stated in a news release on Tuesday. “My staff and I will be working with the District Attorney’s Office to ensure that Mr. Amador understands the seriousness of his actions. I am thankful that no one was injured by Mr. Amador.”
Amador is being held at the Grant County Detention Center at this time.
