One of the rarest McLarens ever built, a 1997 F1 GTR Longtail that once competed at Le Mans, is now on the market for an asking price of $20 million.
The car, listed by U.K.-based specialist Girardo & Co., is one of just 10 Longtail variants produced during the F1 GTR’s final year of competition. Originally developed for endurance racing, the extended rear bodywork provided greater downforce at high speeds. This particular chassis, numbered 27R, is notable for being the ninth Longtail built and the first to claim a race victory.

Delivered new in 1997 to British team owner David Morrison of Parabolica Motorsport, the F1 GTR made its mark in the FIA GT Championship and the British GT Championship, where it won the season opener at Silverstone. It remains the only privately entered Longtail to have led a lap in an FIA GT race.

Still finished in its distinctive yellow-and-blue Parabolica livery, 27R retains its original BMW-sourced 6.0-liter V-12 engine, which was capable of producing close to 900 horsepower when new. The car underwent a comprehensive restoration by renowned specialist Dean Lanzante in 2011, followed by a road conversion in 2017. The transformation included revised steering, increased ride height, and other adjustments to make it street-compliant in the United Kingdom.
The restoration and road-legal conversion together cost more than $500,000. Today, it represents one of the few F1 GTR Longtails that can be legally driven on public roads, adding to its appeal among collectors.
With the McLaren F1 already commanding prices in the tens of millions, the offering underscores the continuing demand for motorsport icons with both race-winning heritage and road-going capability.
