Drew Molly, chief operating officer of Corpus Christi Water, has submitted his resignation, planning to step down from what has become a high-profile position, according to officials.
In a message to the Caller-Times, City Manager Peter Zanoni confirmed Molly’s upcoming departure.
Molly’s resignation was submitted the evening of Aug. 20, Zanoni wrote, and his last day with the city is expected to be Sept. 3.

“I will speak with Nick Winkelmann later today about his serving as interim COO until a permanent hire can be secured,” Zanoni wrote in a memo to the City Council. “Drew is meeting with his teammates at 8AM this morning to inform them of his plans.”
Winkelmann is currently CCW’s director of water systems and support services.
Molly’s reason for leaving the city was not immediately clear. He did not immediately respond to a message sent by the Caller-Times.
Molly has been at the forefront of the city’s ongoing response to severe drought in recent years, including overseeing multiple water supply projects.
The city is expected to release a formal statement later Aug. 21.
