This Is Why The Dodge Charger Daytona EV Failed

There’s been a lot of talk and theorizing about why the Dodge Charger Daytona EV has been a huge flop in the market. But to hear a guy who actually is leasing one go through all the problems he’s experienced with the electric car, it all becomes crystal clear.

Don’t worry, Dodge is cooking up something good again.

Some can say the Dodge crowd just hates EVs and that’s the only reason the Charger Daytonas aren’t moving. But the reality is they’re poorly made and riddled with issues, as a guy named Nicholas Sharrett explains.

He said he smartly leased one instead of buying it, especially since he could get a tremendous deal on an R/T. But even when he took delivery of the EV, he noticed right away a big issue: the driver’s door was misaligned.

It seems to us that with the century of experience Dodge has with manufacturing cars it could at least get the doors right. He blew it off, showing how the body gaps on his Durango are inconsistent – that’s also a bad sign.

But it gets worse.

Dodge designed the vehicle with only one way to open the trunk: a button located on the rear fascia. That’s right, there’s no release button in the interior or on the key fob. Naturally, the button to open the trunk has never worked consistently.

Just like on an old hooptie, the passenger door handle doesn’t work about half the time, so the guy has to open the door from the inside. Plus, when you tumble the driver’s seat forward to let a back passenger out, it will start moving backwards once it scoots all the way forward.

Because this is an app-driven vehicle, one would assume at least those would work correctly. But Sharrett says the Uconnect and onboard WiFi both won’t connect.

In short, Sharrett calls the 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona “practically useless and we can see why. Having that many problems with a brand new ride is ridiculous and is something we just wouldn’t put up with.

Word has traveled quickly and people are avoiding these EVs now as Dodge is starting to reverse course. The automaker absolutely faceplanted on this one.
