Mercedes-Benz’s new Concept AMG GT XX is a 1,360 hp beast that is meant to put down a marker on all-electric performance for speed, range, charging speed, and even style. Since its debut earlier this year, Mercedes has gone about proving it, going 3,404 miles in 24 hours with the new car, which beat a previous record by nearly 1,000 miles.
That was just one of 25 performance records the Concept AMG GT XX set during sessions at Nardò Ring in Italy. The electric auto also went 24,901 miles in less than eight days and averaged 3,293 miles per day. Mercedes said “most of it” was at 186 mph.

The car was stopped only to recharge, which Mercedes said it did with an 850 kW of power, which is exponentially more powerful than a home EV charger. All that power gives the Concept AMG GT XX around 250 miles of range in just five minutes of charging. The car is powered by three electric motors, two on the rear axle, and a third on the front axle, all using a technology called axial flux that Mercedes says weighs less than conventional electric motors while generating more power.
“An AMG has always been defined by its drivetrain. In the electric world, too, our drive system must be convincing across the board,” Michael Schiebe, board chairman at Mercedes-AMG, said in a statement. “We have now impressively demonstrated how superior these technologies are.”
Mercedes said, in fact, it ran a couple of Concept AMG GT XXs at the Nardò Ring. Both did simultaneous runs for the eight days, and both were so similar that they finished just 25 kilometers apart. A team of 17 drivers participated in the sessions, including current Mercedes Formula 1 driver George Russell.
The Mercedes team ran the car for eight days, a duration that it said was inspired another remarkable journey: Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days. The Concept AMG GT XX drove the equivalent of the circumference of the Earth in less than eight days, though, making for a much speedier trip.
