Two men in Louisiana are cooked after they were grilled by police and caught red-handed with $1,500 in stolen meat. Believe it or not, this isn’t the first beef heist we’ve covered on Backfire News but is the third one so far, so they’re not entirely rare events. We’ve also covered seafood, pistachio, Stanley cup, and Nintendo Switch heists in the past.
Car thief takes food blogger’s dog, but a happy reunion follows.
According to Slidell Police Department, trouble for the two suspected thieves started when some officers noticed their prime getaway car didn’t have working brake lights. Seriously, if you’re going to pull off some big heist, make sure police don’t have some pretense to pull you over and turn up the heat.
When officers approached the car, they noticed the two guys were “acting unusually nervous.” Naturally, police are going to think there’s either drugs in the car or both of them have warrants for their arrest.
The department’s post about the bust mentions the officers who made the traffic stop were from the Canine and Narcotics Division, so we wonder if the dogs didn’t smell the meat and go wild, tipping off their partners.
Somehow, police had reasonable cause to search the car as the suspects roasted in their guilt, where they discovered the $1,500 in ribeye steaks and beef brisket. And now we’re hungry.
Unfortunately, when people steal meat, it cant’ be resold, even after it’s recovered. After all, you don’t know if it’s been refrigerated properly. That’s a real shame, because that’s a lot of food to go to waste.
According to police, the two men (who are 55- and 66-years old) shoplifted the meat from a grocery store. They also apparently have a lengthy record for shoplifting. Now they’re cooked.
