Buick's Electra Orbit Concept fuses space-age design with EV innovation, previewing the brand’s all-electric flagship future.
General Motors has officially unveiled the Buick Electra Orbit Concept, a futuristic, all-electric sedan that merges mid-century inspiration with cutting-edge design. Revealed globally in Shanghai, the dramatic concept was developed by GM China’s Advanced Design Center and signals a bold new design direction for Buick’s global portfolio.

The Electra Orbit Concept is the first full-sized flagship sedan under Buick’s all-electric Electra sub-brand, aimed at capturing both nostalgia and innovation. With design cues rooted in the romance of the 1950s, the concept draws heavily from the space race era while embracing the latest in EV architecture.
"Electra Orbit is a bold exploration of what Buick can be when we blend heritage inspiration with visionary innovation," said Stuart Norris, Vice President of Design for GM China and GM International. "We reinterpreted space-age motifs through a modern lens to create something that’s unmistakably Buick, yet completely future-facing."
Measuring nearly 20 feet in length and around seven feet in width, the Electra Orbit is striking in scale and presence. Its aerodynamic silhouette features a low nose, sculpted fenders, and a long rear taper reminiscent of jet-age design. The car’s presence is further emphasized by massive 24-inch wheels, sleek lighting signatures, and a dual-hinged rear trunk with a central pivot.

Finished in a metallic shade named “Space,” the concept’s exterior complements its immersive interior—a cabin inspired by orbit and the cosmos. Earthy textures contrast with high-tech finishes, reflecting Buick’s vision of harmony between the natural and the interstellar.
While purely a design study for now, the Electra Orbit Concept previews the themes and proportions expected in upcoming Buick EV models as the brand continues its transition to a fully electric future.
