Kansas City is in for a scorcher of a weekend with heat index values in the triple digits, according to the National Weather Service.

Heat advisories are in effect Saturday and Sunday afternoons, when the “feels like” temperature could reach 100-105 degrees, the weather service said on social media.

Saturday is expected to be sunny and hot with a high temperature near 97 degrees, the forecast shows. Wind gusts could be around 18 miles per hour. Overnight Saturday, the low is expected to be near 77 degrees, providing little relief from the heat before Sunday.

Sunday will be sunny with a high near 96 degrees, the forecast shows. Heat index values could reach near 102 degrees, the weather service said. Sunday night will be mostly clear with a low near 77 degrees.

“Stay safe and hydrated, and take frequent breaks in the shade,” the weather service said on Facebook.

When could KC get rain?

Monday, there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Kansas City metro area, with precipitation chances around 20%. Monday will stay hot, with the high temperature near 96 degrees, the forecast shows.

Tuesday, the temperatures are expected to drop slightly, with the high still hovering around 91 degrees. Then another slight chance of showers and thunderstorms are possible, around 30% in the afternoon.

Wednesday will be the first day of relief after several days of high temperatures in the 90s. It is expected to be near 85 degrees Wednesday with clear and sunny conditions, the forecast shows.
