Ford Doesn't Have A Fix For Its Newest Half-Million SUV Recall

Ford has issued another six-figure recall this week, hot on the heels of a previous recall addressing blank dash screens. The recall totals 499,129 Lincoln and Ford models, addressing a potential rear brake hose issue. Documents filed with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) show a rear brake hose could rupture and leak fluid.

Ford's Latest Recall Is Another Doozy

Luckily, the new Ford recall only affects 1% of the total recalled vehicles, which should total less than 5,000 vehicles with the defect. Ford says the affected MKX SUVs were made during the 2016-2018 model years and 2015-2018 Ford Edge SUVs. The SUVs used bad rear jounce brake hoses, but Ford hasn't determined a cause. The last of the defective hoses was removed from production in December 2017.

There are a few symptoms owners should know about. Ford tells the NHTSA in its recall report that owners may notice a change to the brake pedal feel and travel. Namely, both will get worse. The hoses can rupture and leak brake fluid, which in turn reduces braking performance. The car may take longer to stop, and the pedal may feel soft. Ford also said owners may observe a brake fluid level warning in the gauge cluster if the leak is severe enough. Of course, owners may also find brake fluid under their cars.

The fix? Ford doesn't have one yet. The automaker is, of course, working on one, and it'll likely involve the replacement of the car's brake lines as well as a brake fluid flush to remove any air that may have entered the lines. Ford says it will announce a remedy between April 1-3, 2026.

It's a long time to wait for a fix at a time when Ford has issued the most recalls of any manufacturer in 2025, a title it's likely to keep. Ford announced some time ago that it would be issuing a litany of recalls as it worked to improve quality control, but that doesn't make owning one any easier for consumers, especially with such a massive recall being issued without a remedy.
