An heirloom on four wheels is about to be born. On Aug. 7, Bugatti will pull the silk cover off “Solitaire”. The first creation in a brand-new program of one-of-one automobiles that revives the company's coachbuilding roots, and rewrites what it means to own a hypercar. The limited series will be revealed online just days before Monterey Car Week, setting the tone for one of the world’s most prestigious automotive festivals.
Bugatti's Century-Old Obsession With Art on Wheels
Coachbuilding (a term for designing and manufacturing automobiles) has been part of the Bugatti DNA since founder Ettore Bugatti's son, Jean Bugatti, brought bodywork in-house during the 1920s and ’30s.
His conviction that a car could be both an engineering feat with unparalleled power and a rolling sculpture became a benchmark that modern Bugatti creations still follow. Crafting icons like the Type 57 SC Atlantic, which is considered a "timeless masterpiece" by Bugatti itself.
According to DuPont Registry, the upcoming car was commissioned by "Dutch entrepreneur Michel Perridon, founder of Perridon Holdings and a longtime Bugatti collector, with everything from pre-war greats like the Type 57G 'Tank' to modern-day Bugattis like the EB110 and multiple versions of the record-breaking Veyron and Chiron."
Inside the Ultra-Exclusive 'Solitaire' Program
Bugatti calls the new initiative “a celebration of grace and elegance.” Translation: every Solitaire car will be a literal one-off, commissioned by a single patron and executed to museum standards.
In their press release, Bugatti announced that on Aug. 7, they will reveal "the latest chapter in this long lineage of bespoke masterpieces, revealing both a new ultra-exclusive program of one-of-one cars, as well as its first creation." They described the new venture as "rooted in the unique artistry and heritage of the Bugatti story, our latest Solitaire."

Whether Solitaire arrives as coupe, fastback, SUV, or something we’ve never seen, its mission is clear. Rekindle the romance of true coachbuilding in the 21st century. Bugatti will livestream the debut on Aug. 7, at 15:00 CEST/06:00 PT. A prime slot for Monterey Car Week-bound enthusiasts to tune into.
